The Son of God Enthroned at the Right Hand of God
Chris’ newly released strike titled, Son of God, takes the viewer to heaven. This round shows Jesus after His Ascension where He is gloriously enthroned in Heaven and is “seated at the right hand of God”.
This round represents a powerful message. Not only does it show Jesus as an authority figure, but just as importantly, it represents Jesus’ place of honor in heaven while He judges the living and the dead as well.
The moment of Jesus’ ascension into heaven is described in Mark 16:19 where he wrote, “So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.” This reference to Christ’s seat in heaven is repeated in many places in the Bible and is obviously an important reference point for both God and man.
Although the Old Testament uses the same phrasing in Psalms 110:1, where it refers to the Messiah as “seated at the right hand of Yahweh”, it is in the New Testament that Jesus himself confirms his seat of importance in the afterlife.
We first learn where Jesus is seated in judgment in the New Testament from Matthew 26:64, and again from Mark 14:62. Here, both of the apostles record Jesus’ interaction with the Jewish high priest Caiaphas where Jesus said to him, “You have said so. (affirming He is the Messiah) But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming in the clouds of heaven.”
There are more verses where Jesus utilizes this descriptive phrase during a lesson or in order to describe a situation to His disciples. Some include references to His sitting down, being seated, standing or sitting at the right hand of the God. Another instance is included in Matthew 22:44 where Jesus challenges the Pharisees saying, ‘“The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet”’.
Another Biblical verse that includes the phase is Acts 7:55-56. St. Stephen describes a vision he had just before his martyrdom where he says, “Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God”. Romans 8:34 also includes a reference to Jesus’ position of authority in heaven where it states, “Who will condemn? It is Christ Jesus who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us”. This is a statement explaining Jesus’ role as a merciful God.
St. Paul, who wrote hundreds of letters, from Roman prisons, to the fledgling communities of Christians in the Middle East, wrote in one of his letters to the Colossians 3:1, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.” Apostle Paul also wrote to the Ephesians 1:20 referencing Almighty God when he wrote, “which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens.”
Another is included In Hebrews 1:3, where the New Testament references Jesus’ relation to his Father saying, “He reflects the glory of God and bears the stamp of his very nature, upholding the universe by the word of his power. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Lastly, the Apostle Creed also states that Jesus is “seated at the right hand of God”. Again, indicating that this position is to be viewed as the most important place, for the most important person of authority present in heaven, other than God Almighty Himself.
Chris’ round, Son of God, not only represents the powerful return of Christ to heaven, and His continued role as Lord and judge, but the strike also references another interesting cultural precedent adopted by Christian men in order to honor men of authority on earth.
Today, whether someone is having a family dinner, a business conference, a State dinner or a corporate banquet, the most important guest is always seated to the right of the host. This has been dining protocol for centuries and its source, as we’ve seen, is the Bible.
How many more of our customs, and traditions, stem from the Bible’s teachings and how many make our lives profoundly better? Thousands!
“He is Risen!
Alleluia!”
